New research on runners has found that a diet rich in fish, vegetables and olive oil in the week prior to a marathon helps protect against exercise-induced muscle damage and cardiac stress during the event (https://doi.org/10.3390/nu12020316). By contrast, diets rich in fatty meats and butter appeared to have the opposite effect.
