CARBOHYDRATE DRINKS: ‘BACK TO BASICS’ IS JUST AS GOOD!

Following our report on this topic in October, yet more research has found that a bog-standard carbohydrate drink (providing 70 grams per hour of carbohydrate), is every bit as effective at maintaining endurance performance and gastrointestinal comfort as a more ‘advanced’ hydrogel drink, containing the same carbohydrate content but with the inclusion of sodium alginate and pectin to produce a more gel-like consistency (https://doi.org/10.1139/apnm-2019-0802).
