INSPIRATORY MUSCLE TRAINING REDUCES BACK PAIN

A new study on the effects of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) in athletes with chronic low back pain has found that 8 weeks of daily IMT significantly reduced pain and improved functionality (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.clinbiomech.2019.09.006). These improvements were thought to be due to increased postural stability; the amount of ‘postural sway’ observed while performing overhead and single leg squats diminished markedly following the IMT.
